Ceramic Coating vs. Graphene Coating

Unveiling the Battle: Modesta Ceramic Coating vs. Graphene Coating

When it comes to preserving the beauty of your beloved vehicle, the choice of protective coatings can be a game-changer. Among the contenders in the automotive detailing realm, Ceramic Coating and graphene coatings stand out. Let's dive into the differences to help you make an informed decision for your car's care, but for the sake of the argument we will focus on Modesta ceramic coatings which are exclusive coatings only available to a select number of installers worldwide. Modesta creates its own membrane on the surface of the vehicle.

The same Modesta coatings have been applied and tested for over 15 years while we’ve (SD) been personally installing and testing these coatings since 2016. We have tried many coatings over the last 10 years and choose Modesta because it is the best!

1. Composition:

Modesta Ceramic Coating:

  • Modesta boasts a silica-based composition, creating a robust glass-like layer on your car's paint. This layer shields against scratches, UV rays, and environmental contaminants, delivering a high-gloss finish.

Graphene Coating:

  • Graphene coatings leverage the unique properties of graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms. Promising superior durability, hydrophobicity, and resistance, graphene coatings aim to elevate the protective game.

2. Performance:

Modesta Ceramic Coating:

  • Renowned for its longevity and high-gloss appearance, Modesta provides an effective barrier against the elements. Its silica-based formula delivers excellent hydrophobic properties, making water bead up and roll off effortlessly.

Graphene Coating:

  • Graphene coatings tout enhanced durability, promising a longer lifespan for the protective layer. The hydrophobic properties are often emphasized, offering exceptional water repellency and resistance to scratches.

3. Real-World Testing:

Reputable coating companies such as Optimum, CQuartz, and Modesta have refrained from incorporating graphene into their products, which speaks volumes. These companies boast experienced chemists who consistently seek innovations to enhance their coatings, and while graphene coatings hold promise for corrosion resistance, addressing issues like poor dispersibility, environmental impact, and the need for more comprehensive research remains essential for their widespread and practical application.

Challenges and Negative Aspects of graphene

  • Standalone graphene coatings may have pores and cracks, reducing their effectiveness.
  • Poor dispersibility of graphene in polymer coatings can lead to uneven protection.
  • Production involves high costs, time-consuming processes, and the use of potentially harmful reagents.
  • Environmental impact and sustainability concerns are associated with graphene coating processes.
  • Limited research on compounds enhancing all aspects of a perfect protective layer.

4. Considerations for Your Car:

  • Driving Conditions: Modesta adapts well to various environments, making it a versatile choice.
  • Graphene coatings may be promoted for extreme durability, suitable for harsh driving conditions.

  • Budget: Modesta is known for its cost-effective yet high-quality solutions.
  • Graphene coatings, however, may come at a premium, considering the advanced technology involved.

Conclusion:

Graphene while offering some benefits, may present drawbacks such as a messy appearance, difficulty in removal, limited aesthetic enhancement, potential durability concerns, and, if mishandled, possible health risks due to inhaling graphene particles during application. It's crucial to carefully assess the specific product, considering factors like application, appearance, and long-term performance.

OUR STUDIO

The environment in which we work has a huge affect on the quality of work produced. For us, this means having two separate climate-controlled spaces to accommodate for spikes in heat and humidity. It means separating our high-end detailing services to prevent contamination in film and coating applications. Our Downtown Orlando studio is 5,600 sq. ft. of air conditioned space with 2,500 sq. ft. dedicated to clean PPF and coating applications.

We have an indoor wash bay with warm and deionized water. We utilize Rupes machines, LED overhead lighting, and Scangrip/LED portable lighting. We have a 4-post lift, scissor lift, and QuickJacks portable car lifts. Our spaces are separately outfitted with right LED lighting for the specific work being performed. We have CCTV security cameras inside and out, with 24-hr armed on-property security monitoring.
