2018 Porsche 911 Carrera in Chalk

PPF Removal & Replacement, Premium Detail, Level 2 Paint Correction, Front Bumper Repainted, + more!

Hey everyone! Today we're focusing on this 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera in Chalk that a new client brought in that we restored recently. While not in total disrepair, it had definitely seen better days and was due for a facelift. The PPF was looking worse for wear and no longer protecting the vehicle as it should have, and the paintwork on the front bumper was peeling and needed to be redone. So, we started off by completely removing the old and worn PPF, and treated this Porsche to a premium exterior detail. From there, we did a Level 2 paint correction on the vehicle, performed a Level 1 interior detail, and commissioned one of our trusted paint specialists to re-spray and reinstall the front bumper before applying fresh, new PPF. We then sealed everything in with Modesta's BC-08 coating. Truly a labor of love, but this vehicle is now transformed and fortified with necessary protection. Keep reading to follow us along in the process!

PPF REMoval

We began by safely removing the existing paint protection film from the vehicle’s painted surfaces. PPF can be an excellent investment to protect a vehicle's exterior, but over time it may need to be replaced due to age, discoloration, damage, peeling, or if it's simply time for a change. Film removal is always approached carefully because the condition of the film and adhesive can vary wildly, and we want to proceed without further damaging the paint beneath.

Premium EXTERIOR DETAIL

Once the old film was removed, this 911 received the royal treatment with our Premium Exterior Detail. This service is much more comprehensive and thorough than our standard preparation wash.

The vehicle was hand washed using a double-bucket decontamination method before receiving a clay bar treatment to remove any remaining contaminants. The wheels were removed so we could deep clean the wheels, inner wheel wells, and calipers rather than simply washing the outermost parts. Below is an example of just how dirty the components inside the wheel well were before we cleaned them:

The engine bay and front parts were also fully detailed, and the tires were cleaned and dressed. Check out all the before and afters below to see the difference a good deep cleaning makes:

Proper preparation is critical to any paint correction, film & coating installation, or other work to follow, as it allows us to begin with a clean starting point, and ultimately makes any added products or services work more effectively.

LEVEL 2 PAINT CORRECTION

Next, we moved onto a Level 2 paint correction, a two-stage process designed to address light scratches, swirl marks, holograms, and oxidation that may accumulate on the surface of the car. To achieve this, we:

  • 1) Used a moderately aggressive correction product to repair and refine deeper imperfections in the paint.
  • 2) Followed with a lighter-cut finishing product designed to remove any remaining haziness to make that milky white paint even brighter and clearer.

Not only does this step help make the appearance of the paint glossier overall, but it also helps correct certain areas of the exterior and significantly improves its condition so that completely re-painting the entire vehicle isn't necessary.

As you can see below, there were several areas that had obvious peeling and scratches:

Now, the finish is perfected!

LEVEL 1 INTERIOR DETAIL

Even though our focus was primarily on revitalizing the exterior, we wanted to show the interior cabin some love as well with a Level 1 Interior Detail. We thoroughly vacuumed the seats, carpets, consoles, steering wheel, and door panels, and used compressed air to remove debris from difficult-to-reach areas. We used a selection of professional Nextzett and Aenso detailing products throughout the interior and used steam when necessary. We also cleaned the interior glass to remove any grime or fogginess. This step completely refreshed the inside of the vehicle, making it just as impeccable as the outside.

REPAINTED BUMPER

During this project, we also had the front bumper resprayed by enlisting the help of SuperShop Automotive, one of our go-to automotive paint specialists. We often partner with other highly-skilled professionals in the industry to outsource particular services that our shop alone may not offer, who then come to us and work their magic. This is highly convenient for our clients, who may require a complex detail with a range of services, as it allows them to not have to seek out multiple shops for different kinds of work. It also gives us a chance to support our fellow detailing experts in the area!

The repainting service included bumper removal, transportation, professional paint work, and reinstallation. A freshly refinished bumper can make a world of a difference in the appearance of the entire front end, particularly on a vehicle that has collected various scratches or indentations over time.

Check out the before and after photos of the front bumper below:

Once the bumper was finished and put back on, we waited 30 days before adding protection on top of it.

NEW PPF INSTALL

Finally, after 30 days, we were able to add new paint protection film to the front bumper and new OEM splash guards.

The front bumper is one of the most exposed areas, and in turn most prone to damage, making PPF a practical solution to safeguard that area. The film provides a strong but "barely-there" layer between the outside world and the painted surface, helping preserve any corrective paint work from the elements and various road debris.

Modesta BC-08

To complete this Porsche's makeover, we applied Modesta's BC-08 Neosillica Matrix Coating, a coating well suited for everyday vehicles or those looking for a cost-effective coating option. Its formulation includes traces of zirconium to enhance shine, while its three-dimensional matrix technology provides excellent water repellency. It also makes it incredibly easy to clean on your own! Lastly, it gives a professional glossy look.

It's important to remember that a luxury coating isn't a substitute for proper washing and care. Enhancements to a vehicle can only be as good as the accompanying maintenance and dedication of the owner. Sufficient care will definitely prolong the life of the services you invest in.

THE END RESULT

We're so glad we were able to breathe new life into this Porsche 911 Carrera and help its owner repair past damage - from surface preparation through final protection. It's also important to note that exceptional detailing isn't about a one-size-fits-all approach, and it isn't always a straightforward process. It involves addressing the vehicle's individual needs, and building a protection system around that. As with this Porsche, proper detailing can involve additional steps or delays in order to do things correctly and get the desired result. Patience is key in this regard.

Now, this Porsche is absolutely radiant and armed with great protection!
